FREEDOM BAPTIST TEMPLE
On November 29, 1989, being led of the Lord Jesus Christ, a new body of believers met at 483 South Miami Avenue, Xenia. Bro. Charles Weaver preached the first Sunday, December 4, 1989. The people then called Bro. Charles W. Savage, II, to preach the second Sunday, December 11, 1989, and voted to call him as Pastor.
The new Church was named Freedom Baptist Chapel and was a mission of Pinecrest Baptist Church, Kilgore, Texas, Pastor Marlyn Henry, which voted to send out to plant the Church, Bro. Charles W. Savage, II, whom they had ordained.
In January 1990, the mission was incorporated and named Freedom Baptist Temple with 34 Charter members. The Church met in the four-car garage and in the house and on a bus at 483 South Miami Avenue, Xenia, until the spring of 1991. At that time, the Church moved upstairs over the McDorman’s Men’s Clothing Store, 51 W. Main Street, in downtown Xenia, OH. The Lord opened 5.003 acres of land on route 68 South of Xenia, and the Church was able to purchase that land and to begin a building program. Upon completion of the new building, the Church moved to 1067 U.S. Route 68 South, in March of 1993.
On June 8, 2001, the Lord added to the Church 15.889 acres surrounding the Church. A building program was begun to add classrooms, a kitchen, a fellowship hall, and a larger Sanctuary. God has added to the Church, which today has 82 families attending. (as of 2002)
